On 12 February 2026, fresh numbers surfaced. And they tell a clear story. The Mahindra XUV 7XO is not just another facelift. It is moving metal. Fast. Launched in January at a starting price of Rs. 13.66 lakh (ex-showroom), the SUV has already contributed to a combined 93,000+ bookings along with the electric XEV 9S. That’s big. Really big.
But here’s what makes it more interesting. Buyers are not confused. They know what they want. And most of them are choosing diesel. Step into any Mahindra showroom today and you’ll probably hear the same question Diesel available? That says a lot. Nearly 75% of total bookings are for diesel variants, while petrol accounts for just 25%. The numbers don’t lie.
In January 2026 alone, Mahindra rolled out about 8,000 diesel units. Petrol? Around 3,123 units. The gap is visible. And intentional. The company is clearly adjusting production based on demand trends. Why diesel though? Simple. Indian buyers love torque. They love efficiency on highways. They love the idea of a powerful three-row SUV that can carry family, luggage, and still cruise without stress. It’s practical thinking.

The mid-size SUV segment in India has been growing steadily. Families are upgrading. Road trips are common now. And diesel still feels like the sensible option for long-distance usage. Unless fuel economics changes drastically, this preference may continue. Maybe even grow.
Now comes the waiting game. Because demand is strong. Very strong. The AX7T and AX7L trims are emerging as clear favorites. Buyers seem willing to stretch their budgets for more features, more tech, more comfort. These variants offer petrol automatic and diesel manual or automatic options. Six-seat or seven-seat layouts. Choices matter. And Mahindra gave plenty.
The base AX trim currently carries a waiting period of up to 52 weeks. Almost a year. That’s long. The AX7L diesel has a 26-week wait, while the petrol version stands at 17 weeks. AX3 and AX5 sit around 22 weeks. On the brighter side, AX7T and petrol AX7 are expected in roughly four weeks. AX7 diesel may take about six weeks.
Mahindra has not officially revealed the split between XUV 7XO and XEV 9S bookings. Still, the showroom energy suggests the facelift SUV is doing most of the heavy lifting. Early 2026 bookings momentum feels organic. Not hype-driven.

Priced between Rs. 13.66 lakh and Rs. 24.92 lakh (ex-showroom), the XUV 7XO sits proper within the heart of the aggressive mid-length SUV section. Some call it the herbal successor to the XUV700. Officially, it’s a facelift. Unofficially, it appears like extra. The design tweaks are noticeable. The cabin feels fresher. Safety tech, including ADAS features, adds confidence. The overall package feels mature. Slightly premium. And buyers seem to agree.
Customer deliveries have already started in select cities. Social media feedback is mostly positive. Not perfect, but positive. That matters. If production scales up smoothly, Mahindra could reduce waiting periods and sustain this demand curve. If not, delays might test buyer patience. That’s the balancing act. For now, though, one thing is certain. The XUV 7XO has entered 2026 with serious momentum. And it’s not slowing down anytime soon.
