JSW MG Motor India has officially unveiled the India-spec MG Majestor today. Prices are still under wraps, and honestly, this suspense strategy feels very familiar. The company has confirmed that the price announcement will happen in April, while deliveries are scheduled to begin in May.
Pre-bookings are now open with a token amount of Rs. 41,000. Interesting number choice. Not 40,000. Not 50,000. A small psychological play, perhaps. But for buyers serious about entering this segment, it is a reasonable commitment.
Positioning Above the Gloster, Aiming Higher
The Majestor will sit above the Gloster in MG’s SUV lineup. That clearly signals a push toward a more premium positioning. I first saw this SUV at the Auto Expo last year, and the crowd reaction was mixed. People were impressed, yes. But there was also hesitation.
Let’s be honest. In the 40–50 lakh bracket, Indian buyers do not rely only on feature lists. They look at resale value, long-term reliability, and after-sales support just as closely.
Exterior Strong Road Presence with a Bold Attitude
On the outside, the Majestor carries an aggressive stance. It gets a new grille design with vertically stacked LED DRLs integrated on either side. The squared LED headlamps add a tough, upright character. Chunky skid plates at both ends enhance its SUV appeal.

New 19-inch alloy wheels, blacked-out window lines, connected LED tail lamps, dual exhaust tips, and an integrated roof spoiler with a high-mounted stop lamp complete the look. Overall, it feels muscular. Slightly dramatic. Almost American in attitude. Buyers can choose from four colour options Metal Black, Pearl White, Metal Ash, and Concrete Grey. Personally, Metal Ash stood out to me at the Expo. Subtle, yet premium.
Interior Feature-Loaded, Almost Overloaded
Inside, the cabin follows a Smoked Ebony theme. Dark interiors look premium, though in Indian summers practicality always becomes a question. A panoramic sunroof is part of the package, as expected in this segment. The SUV gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, three-zone climate control, and Level 2 ADAS. Front seats offer ventilation and even massage functions. There is a 12-speaker JBL audio system and 64-colour ambient lighting. Yes, sixty-four. You could probably match it to your mood every day.

Other features include a 360-degree camera, 12-way powered driver seat, gesture-controlled powered tailgate, digital key, two wireless chargers, and 10 off-road modes. It will be available in both six-seat and seven-seat configurations. That said, my experience with feature-heavy MG cabins makes me slightly cautious. I once had an MG SUV for a long-term test, and the infotainment system froze mid-drive. Needed a restart. A long feature list looks impressive on paper, but smooth and consistent performance matters more in daily use.
Engine and Performance Strong on Paper
Powering the Majestor is a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine producing 213 bhp and 478 Nm of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and notably, the 4x4 system comes as standard.
On paper, these numbers are solid. But real-world performance tells the real story. Indian highways, broken rural patches, steep inclines they test a vehicle very differently compared to spec sheets.

Variants and Competition
The Majestor will be offered in three variants Sharp 4x2, Savvy 4x2, and Savvy 4x4. This creates a clear ladder for buyers, from entry to fully loaded 4x4 capability.
Once launched, comparisons are inevitable. MG Majestor vs Toyota Fortuner Legender will be the headline battle. It will also compete with the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron. Fortuner stands for long-term reliability. Kodiaq for refinement. The Majestor will need to prove it can balance both.
Final Thoughts
At first glance, the Majestor makes a strong statement. Bold design. Heavy feature list. Powerful diesel engine. But the Indian premium SUV market does not reward excitement alone.
When the MG Majestor price in India is revealed in April, that is when the real judgment begins. If priced smartly, it could genuinely shake up the segment. If positioned too high, buyers may stick with safer, more established options. I am personally waiting for the test drive before forming a final opinion. Because sometimes, the real character of an SUV only shows once it hits actual Indian roads.
