Volkswagen just dropped the Tayron R-Line in India. Yep, the brand’s new flagship 7-seater SUV. If you’re hunting for a 3-row SUV with proper German engineering, this one will be on your shortlist. Expectations? High Reality? Well that’s the real test.
Front Design
Look at the front. Familiar? Kind of. It’s very Tiguan R-Line, just a slightly tweaked grille. The illuminated VW logo and connected LED light bar give it a modern, slightly futuristic vibe. Most of the bumper? Gloss black. Quick tip slap a PPF on it unless you love scratches. Trust me.

Side Profile
From the side, it’s obvious this is a bigger SUV. More space for that third row. . The 19-inch twin-tone alloys appearance sharp, filling the arches just right. Slim gloss black cladding adds that sporty, rugged aspect. On the road? It commands attention. You can’t miss it.

Rear Design
Rear is clean, no nonsense. LED tail lamps are connected, with pixel-style elements that pop at night. Gloss black bumper carries the theme from the front. A dealer told me this connected LED thingy really grabs eyes on Indian streets. And honestly… he wasn’t exaggerating.

Dimensions Comparison
Think of it as a stretched Tiguan. Wheelbase: 2789 mm. Length: 4792 mm. Bigger. Width and height? Not much change. Boot space? 345 litres with all three rows up. Fold the third row 850 litres. Family trips just got easier.
Interior
Inside wow. Minimalist dashboard, very Tiguan R-Line vibes. Two huge screens steal the show: 15-inch floating infotainment, 10.25-inch fully digital driver display. Most functions, even climate, are touchscreen-controlled. Ambient lighting? 30 colors. Front seats are fancy electric, ventilated, heated, massaging. Second row slides and reclines. Third row? Life saver for long trips.

Features and Safety
Where Tiguan lacked, Tayron R-Line delivers. Ventilated the front seats, powered tailgate, Harman Kardon sound, linked vehicle tech, heads-up show, three-zone AC, dual wi-fi chargers, 30-colour ambient lights take a look at, check, test. Safety? 9 airbags, parking sensors, digital handbrake, TPMS, 360 digital camera, full ADAS. Basically you’re covered.
Powertrain
Engine is familiar 2-litre turbo petrol, 204 PS, 320 Nm, 7-speed DCT, AWD. Adaptive dampers let you tweak suspension soft or stiff. Highways? Smooth. City traffic? Yep, big SUV feels big. Not impossible, just noticeable.

Rivals
Rivals in India? Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Jeep Meridian. Price, features, German pedigree strong points. But brand trust, after-sales support? Big factors here. If you crave tech-heavy, premium German SUV, Tayron is up there. Tough fight though. Fortuner and Kodiaq won’t just roll over.
