VLF launches upgraded Tennis 1500 electric scooter New colors, more color, and the same price!
The VLF Tennis 1500, part of the Kolhapur-based Motohaus group (which also sells Brixton bikes in India), has just been upgraded! While it doesn't look much different, it now comes with better features, new colors, and a longer range - all without the price hike. Let's break down what's new!
Slate Blue
Slate Blue
Ebony black
These join the existing Fire Fury Red and Snowflake White, giving buyers four stylish options. The design of the scooter is handled by Alessandro Tartarini, the same genius behind the Lambretta and Italjet scooters, so it has a cool, retro look.
Big upgrade: more range!
The biggest improvement is the battery. The new LMFP (Lithium Manganese Iron Phosphate) battery with aluminium casing helps the scooter to go 150 km on a single charge, which is 20 km more than before. This type of battery is more heat resistant and safe, making it perfect for India's hot weather.
New features
USB charging port for a better ride - finally! Now you can charge your phone on the go.
3 riding modes: Choose between Eco, Normal and Sport depending on your need for speed or battery saving.
What hasn’t changed?
V.L.F. kept all the good stuff from the previous model:
-
5-inch full-color TFT display
-
Keyless start
-
Side-stand motor cut-off (Safety first!)
-
All the LED lights.
-
18-litre under-seat storage (enough for a helmet)
-
Telescopic front suspension and hydraulic monoshock for a smooth ride
-
12-inch alloy wheels with disc brakes (front and rear) and CBS (Combined Braking System)
Power and Performance
It's light and zippy!
The Tennis 1500 has a 1.5 kW hub motor (now 2.57 kW peak power) and a 2.6 kWh battery. It may not seem like much, but with a kerb weight of just 88kg, it feels quick and fun in city traffic. It has a top speed of 65 kmph and takes 3 hours to fully charge with the included 720W portable charger.
When can you buy it?
Even though the scooter has been officially launched, the deliveries will start only from November 25. In addition, VLF is still a typical brand, in which only dealers are:
-
New Delhi, Kolhapur
-
Pune, Ahmedabad
-
Sangli, Goa, Bangalore
It's coming soon: The VLF Mobster 180 and 125 (petrol scooters!)
In a surprising move, VLF has confirmed two new petrol scooters for India:
-
The Mobster 125
-
Mobster 180
Both will have liquid-cooled engines (unusual in a scooter!) and are expected to launch by August-September 2024. Prices could be around Rs 1.4 lakh for the 125 and Rs 1.7 lakh for the 180. If done right, they could challenge the likes of the Yamaha Aerox and the TVS Ntorq 125.
The big challenge: The Bajaj Chetak
VLF Tennis 1500 looks retro and cool, but it's not as famous as the Vespa or the Bajaj Chetak. Chetak has better brand recognition, good range and features, which make it a tough competitor. VLF will need to build trust to expand rapidly and compete.
The final decision... Are you willing to wait for that?
If you want a lightweight, stylish electric scooter with good range, the VLF Tennis 1500 is a good choice. New batteries, extra range, and USB ports make it better than ever. But if you need a wider service network, you can look at the Bajaj Chetak or the Ather 450X.
What do you think?
