Let me be straight the moment I saw the new Tata Sierra outside the showroom, a weird déjà vu hit me. The old Sierra’s rugged charm flashed in my mind. But this new one totally different personality. Price starts at ₹11.49 lakh, sure, but there’s a whole story behind that number.
Design and those old memories
This time Tata played a clever game. They kept the Sierra name, but gave the body a clean, modern, almost concept-car vibe. I still remember 2017 during a media drive when I ended up arguing with Tata’s design head. I told him straight that Tata always falls short in cabin finish. The guy laughed and said, “Wait for the next generation, you’ll see.” Maybe this is what he meant.

And yeah, one more thing that old-school wraparound glass effect at the rear they kept a hint of it. Not a replica, but the vibe is there. You see it and instantly go Yep this is Sierra.
Engine, power, and those big company promises
The company says the new turbo-petrol engine is smooth and responsive. But I have this slightly painful memory. Back in the early BS6 Nexon days, the turbo lag gave me a mini heart attack while overtaking on the highway. Only a software update fixed it. So whenever I hear big promises now, a tiny doubt wakes up inside my head.
People are buzzing about the future EV version too, but what’s on sale today is the ICE lineup. No crazy range claims yet, and honestly, I’ve learned with Tata that real-world numbers always wander a bit.
Variants and colours but the story is slightly different
They kept the variant list short, which is good. Base at ₹11.49 lakh, and then trims climb up with more features and garnish. Colours are also simple white, silver, dark green, and a brown-ish shade that looked great in photos but slightly dull under showroom lights. If you ask me, Sierra deserved some bold colours. The car has attitude the palette should’ve matched it.
Cabin quality good, but not spotless
Sitting inside gives a mixed feeling. Seats are comfy, dashboard is modern, the screen is huge. But the one thing that still pokes me is the software. Tata’s infotainment behaves like a moody artist sometimes smooth, sometimes thinking deeply about life for no reason.

I remember this tiny moment during a Pune plant visit. A Tata engineer casually said, “Sir, hardware is easy, software stability gives us nightmares.” Since that day, whenever a new Tata launches, the first thing I check is the software.
Road presence oh yes, people will stare
Sierra looks majestic on the road. That boxy silhouette has a calm swagger. A bit adventurous, a bit urban-premium. But yeah, it’s big. In narrow lanes, the steering demands your full attention.
The real question is ₹11.49 lakh justified?
The price is attractive. No doubt. But Sierra isn’t just another SUV. It’s an emotion-packed product. Tata tied nostalgia with modern design. But and this is a big but Tata needs to make sure software bugs, random fit-finish issues, and the hit-or-miss after-sales don’t spoil the experience. Otherwise Sierra’s shine will fade.
And for folks thinking this is just another SUV nope. Sierra is more of a lifestyle machine. Not a rugged family hauler like Harrier or Safari. More like a boutique SUV with personality.
Final personal verdict
For me, the Tata Sierra is a bold, gutsy comeback. Price is right, looks are solid, nostalgia is strong. If Tata manages reliability and software well this time, Sierra could easily become a cult product.
If I put it bluntly — if you want a unique, character-loaded, modern Indian SUV, Sierra absolutely deserves a spot on your shortlist. Just make sure during the test drive you check every feature properly. Sierra is beautiful… but she might throw a few tantrums.
