Whenever we think about buying an electric car, one major question always comes to mind how far will it actually run? Can we take it on highways? And is it practical for daily use? Today we’ll answer these common questions by understanding the real capabilities of Tata Punch EV.
This electric car is offered in two variants with different battery ranges, suitable for different types of users. Below is a complete breakdown for easy understanding.
Battery Options and Company-Claimed Range
Tata Punch EV comes with two battery options:
- 25 kWh Mid-Range Variant – ~265 km company-claimed range
- 35 kWh Long-Range Variant – ~421 km company-claimed range
These figures are tested under controlled lab conditions, so the real-world range usually comes 20–30% lower. Driving style, traffic, speed, AC usage, and regenerative braking all affect the final range.

Real-World Range Performance
During multiple road tests, Tata Punch EV performed strongly in real driving situations. When driven steadily at around 60 km/h in City/Normal mode with Regen Level 2–3, the 35 kWh variant returned approximately 230–250 km of real range.
These numbers are much closer to what an everyday user can expect from the EV, rather than theoretical test values.

City + Highway Mixed Range Results
When tested in a combination of city and highway driving with speeds between 60–90 km/h and minimal regen usage, the real-world range observed was:
- 35 kWh Long Range: ~220–240 km
- 25 kWh Mid Range: ~170–190 km
The 25 kWh variant is ideal for daily city users with moderate travel, while the 35 kWh variant is suitable for long drives, weekend trips, and highway usage. However, smaller battery users may need to charge more frequently during long journeys.
Charging Time for Both Variants
The 35 kWh model takes around 5 hours (10% to 100%) using a 7.2 kW home/AC charger. With a DC fast charger, it reaches 10% to 80% in about 50–60 minutes, depending on charger output and temperature.
The 25 kWh variant charges slightly faster, but offers comparatively lower driving range. If your usage is mostly within the city, the smaller battery is practical, affordable, and efficient.
Which Variant Should You Choose?
For city driving and short daily commutes – 25 kWh Mid Range is the best choice.
For long highway travel, trips, and less charging dependency – 35 kWh Long Range is ideal.
Both variants are capable, but choosing the right one based on your driving pattern ensures better value, convenience, and long-term satisfaction.
