To be honest, when I first heard the name Skoda Elroq, one thought hit me instantly. Skoda is back with another EV, but is it actually new thinking or just a fresh badge? Looking at the Elroq it feels like Skoda is trying to appeal to both young buyers and families at the same time. The design has some sharp edges, a slightly European vibe, but nothing that screams radical. And maybe that’s exactly what Skoda wants. Play safe. Don’t gamble too much.
Design and real-world road presence
The moment I saw the international-spec visuals, Enyaq popped into my head. Same family face, just a bit more compact and tighter. From the front, the car looks confident. From the side, that wow factor slips away. You know that moment when you park your car and turn back for one last look? With the Elroq, that moment feels average.
Skoda designers have always had one habit. Staying safe. From Octavia to Kushaq, the pattern has been clear. The Elroq walks the same line. Not wrong, but not adventurous either.
Interior Classic Skoda practicality or cost cutting?
I’ve always liked Skoda interiors. Simple, logical, and focused on the driver. The Elroq follows that philosophy. Big touchscreen, clean layout, easy to understand. But there’s one thing that nags. Materials.
I say this because I still remember a test drive back in 2019 with a Skoda Superb, where the dealer confidently said, Sir, we never compromise on quality. In today’s EV era, that same Skoda feels like it’s using a bit more plastic than before. It’s not badly finished, but the premium feel isn’t consistent everywhere. Rear seat space is decent, but if you’re over six feet tall, knee room will need a small compromise. Family buyers will notice this quickly.

Battery, range, and brand promises
The company claims the Elroq will offer a strong driving range. On paper, the numbers sound attractive. Close to 500. But then my past experiences kick in. Back in 2021, I drove another European EV that promised 480. In the real world, with AC on and highway speeds, anxiety started after 360.
With the Elroq, I suspect reality will be similar. In city conditions, it should manage well. On Indian highways, with heat and charging gaps, the real test begins. Skoda is hinting at better thermal management this time, but until you drive it yourself, trust doesn’t come easily.
Charging and that old software fear
A quick personal story. In 2022, after a software update on one EV, my car suddenly stopped recognizing fast chargers. The dealer’s response was blunt. Sir, it’s a software bug. I lived on slow charging for nearly three weeks.
So whenever a brand says their software is rock solid, I smile a little. The Elroq looks modern in terms of infotainment and charging logic, but Skoda’s software track record has been mixed. OTA updates sound great, but in India, execution still feels shaky.
Driving feel Skoda DNA is still alive
This is where the Elroq feels strong. Steering response, suspension tuning, body control. Skoda hasn’t lost this skill. Despite being an EV, the car doesn’t feel numb. As far as I’m concerned, driving enthusiasts will appreciate this.
Acceleration is smooth, not neck-snapping. And honestly, that’s a good thing. When you’re driving with family, you don’t need rocket launches at every signal.
Brand trust and the Indian buyer’s mindset
Skoda has always had one challenge in India. After-sales experience and long-term peace of mind. Even today, I remember a reader messaging me saying, The car is brilliant, but visiting the service center ruins the mood.
With the Elroq, Skoda needs to break this perception. EV buyers are already cautious. If service and software support aren’t smooth, even a good car can struggle.

Final thoughts Is the Elroq really worth it?
The Elroq feels like a balanced EV. Not too bold, not too boring. If Skoda gets the pricing right and takes charging support seriously, this car can find its audience.
But if you’re planning to decide purely based on brochure numbers, slow down. Take a test drive. Talk openly with the dealer. Check your charging options. With EVs, practical thinking matters more than emotions. For me, the Elroq is an interesting attempt, but not a car I’d recommend blindly. Not yet.
