So, first time I laid eyes on the MG4 EV, I thought Whoa, that’s sharp. Clean lines, nice grille, everything looks future-ready. But then, I took it for a spin, and hmm, reality hits differently. Not bad, but not showroom-perfect either.
Quick story one dealer casually told me Sir, the software updates can be slow sometimes. I was like Yeah, I saw that in test drive too. Instant torque is fun, no doubt. But battery claims? Company says 500 km. Real-world? My friend barely hit 380 km. AC on full, traffic in Mumbai you get the picture. Numbers drop faster than expected. And honestly, that’s a pattern I’ve seen before with other EVs.
Design and Feel
The interior’s clean. Seats are comfy, touchscreen is big. But small lag here and there. One time at a red light, the system decided to reset itself. Awkward? Sure. Annoying? Just a bit. Exterior looks modern, LED lights pop, grille is neat. People turn heads. But rear seat? Tight for tall folks. Boot’s okay. Could be better.
Driving Experience
Drive feels weird first few minutes. Torque is strong bit of a shock if you’re not ready. Highway? Smooth. City traffic? Regenerative braking jerks a bit. Funny thing checking battery mode once, random warning popped up. Dealer said Minor glitches happen sometimes. Yup. Not dangerous, just annoying. And trust me, I’ve seen this in multiple EVs over the years.
Charging Reality
Home charging easy. Public fast chargers in India? Scattered mess. Tried Mumbai, Pune. One charger took forever. Company claims vs reality gap noticeable. Boot and rear seat headroom still small. Tall passenger? Not ideal. You have to plan charging stops smartly. Otherwise, frustration hits.

Honestly, MG4 EV is promising, not perfect. City driving? Fine. Highway? Works. But realistic expectations needed. If you can tolerate minor glitches and slow chargers, it’s a blast. My 10 years in the Indian auto world tell me future-ready, yes. Perfect? Not even close.
