The Mahindra XUV 7XO comes in six trims, and if you’re looking at the base AX variant versus the fully-loaded AX7 L, there’s a lot to consider. Let’s break it down, straight talk, no fluff.
Exterior
Surprisingly, the base AX does not feel cheap. You get dual-pod LED projector headlights, LED DRLs, LED taillights, and the new chrome grille. Looks modern, even if you’re on a budget. What you miss? 19-inch alloys (you get 17-inch steel wheels), fog lamps, and sequential turn indicators. Fog lamps can be added as genuine accessories, so it’s not a dealbreaker.
Colour Options
| Feature | XUV 7XO AX (Base) | XUV 7XO AX7 L (Top) |
|---|---|---|

Interior & Comfort
Triple-screen display is standard even on the base AX, which is a big win. But the theme is black fabric, not leatherette like in the AX7 L. Steering wheel is the older style from XUV700, keeping some nostalgia alive. Top variant gets soft-touch surfaces, dual-tone steering, leatherette seats, and powered adjustments.

AC controls are manual in the AX (physical knobs), while AX7 L uses touchscreen dual-zone climate control. Rear passengers in the AX still have AC vents and centre armrest, but no sunroof or rear window shades like AX7 L. Overall, comfort is decent but not luxurious.

Features
The base AX has manual driver seat adjustment (6-way) and basic tech. AX7 L gives ventilated front and rear seats, rear entertainment BYOD mounts, dual wireless chargers, multi-colour ambient lighting, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. Clearly, AX misses out on many premium touches.
Safety
Both variants have 6 airbags (7 total in top variant), ABS with EBD, ESC, hill hold/descent, and ISOFIX anchors. AX7 L adds knee airbag, 540° camera, level-2 ADAS, adaptive cruise, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and tyre pressure monitoring.
