I remember a dealer telling me once, very confidently Sir, diesel automatic buyers don’t exist. He said it like a fact. Two years later, same guy was struggling to explain waiting periods. Market changes. Quickly. Mahindra seems to have figured that out.

Inside the Vision S test mule, things look sensible. Fabric seats. Halogen indicators. Regular steering wheel. No glowing logo drama. This feels like a mid-variant, and that’s actually good. Because the layout stays true to the concept. Dashboard shape, air vents, overall design. All familiar. No last-minute panic redesign.

And thank god for physical buttons. Infotainment. Climate control. Actual buttons. I’ve driven enough cars where touch panels look cool in the showroom and feel irritating on day three. This decision feels made by someone who actually drives.

Then there’s the panoramic sunroof. Big. Almost comically big. Stretches back close to the rear headrests. Will people use it daily? Probably not. Will it sell cars? Absolutely yes. I’ve seen buyers choose a variant just because their kid liked the sunroof. True story.

Rear seat details show some thought. Adjustable headrests for all three passengers. 60:40 split seats. These aren’t headline features, but they matter later. On road trips. On airport runs. When the novelty wears off.

The Vision S doesn’t feel like a far-off dream anymore. It feels close. Almost ready. The design works. The feature choices make sense. The engine options are interesting. Now it’s down to the usual Mahindra question. Execution. Build quality. Software that doesn’t act up after two updates. And service that doesn’t test your patience. If they get this right, Vision S won’t just enter the sub-4-metre segment. It’ll disturb it.
