Mahindra Vision S Diesel Automatic Mid Variant Spied – Interior Details, Panoramic Sunroof Revealed
Latest spy shots confirm a diesel automatic setup, mid-spec interiors and a panoramic sunroof, positioning the Mahindra Vision S as a feature-rich, rugged sub-4m SUV.
Mahindra Vision S has been spotted once again, and this time it feels different. Not like an early test mule. Not like a concept trying to stay mysterious. This looks closer to production. The kind of car you spot when a brand has already made most of its decisions.
Yes, it’s a sub-4-metre SUV. But it doesn’t behave like one Boxy shape, Upright stance, Flat surfaces. It carries that tough, almost stubborn look which Mahindra clearly wants to push. This isn’t a soft urban crossover. It wants to feel like a lifestyle SUV, sitting below the Scorpio but borrowing that rugged attitude.
People are quick to say Defender vibes. I won’t disagree. But this feels more practical, more Indian. Something you can daily drive, park easily, and still take on broken roads without overthinking.
Diesel Automatic Finally Comes Into the Picture
The biggest talking point from the new spy shots is the diesel powertrain. The AdBlue cap near the fuel filler makes it obvious. BS6 Phase-2 diesel confirmed. And inside the cabin, the automatic gear lever seals the deal.
This is important. Really important. I’ve driven enough compact SUVs to say this with confidence diesel automatic options are still rare in the sub-4m segment. If Mahindra launches Vision S with this combo right away, it gives them an edge that buyers will actually feel, not just read about.
This Is a Mid Variant And That’s Where the Sense Is.
Look closely and you’ll know this isn’t the top-spec version. Halogen indicators instead of LEDs. Standard Mahindra steering wheel. Fabric seats. No fancy illuminated logos
.
But here’s the thing. Mid variants are where the real sales happen. A dealer once told me, The top model is for the showroom, the mid-range variant goes home. That line stuck with me. Vision S seems built exactly for that buyer someone who wants features, but not unnecessary show.
Interior Feels Familiar, Practical
The cabin design looks very close to the concept version shown earlier. Dashboard layout, vents, overall structure nothing feels overdone. And thankfully, physical buttons are still present for infotainment and climate control.
I’ve used cars where changing AC settings needs too much screen tapping. It gets annoying fast. For a rugged, lifestyle SUV, this simpler approach works better. There’s a large touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, and a layout that feels functional more than flashy.
Panoramic Sunroof Makes a Big Statement
Yes, the panoramic sunroof is real. And it’s large. The glass roof stretches back almost to the rear seat headrests. For a sub-4m SUV, that’s a bold move.
That said, I’m a bit cautious. Past Mahindra models have had minor wind noise issues with sunroofs. I’ve personally faced it during a long highway drive. Not a deal-breaker, but something Mahindra needs to get right this time.
Rear Seat Practicality Looks Sorted
At the rear, Vision S checks the right boxes. Three adjustable headrests. A 60:40 split rear bench. Boxy design helping with headroom. This doesn’t feel like a front-seat-only car. Families will be comfortable. And in India, that matters more than brands sometimes admit.

What Comes Next
Vision S is expected to be based on Mahindra’s new NU IQ platform. Petrol options are likely, possibly the 1.2-litre turbo from the XUV 3XO. Diesel duty could be handled by the familiar 1.5-litre engine seen on entry-level Thar variants.
Strong safety, connected tech and drive modes are almost guaranteed. Once launched, Vision S won’t just challenge sub-4m SUVs. It will also bother cars sitting a segment above.
