The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is a popular bike among Indian youth. It's one of the best-selling performance motorcycles in India. Its powerful engine and sporty sound make it a popular purchase. However, every bike has some unique features that are never revealed in real life, and knowing them is crucial for any rider. Today, we'll discuss some of these features.
When I rode my friend's bike, it performed quite well on the highway and in the city. But here are five things you should know before buying one.
Why does engine noise increase with increasing speed on the highway?
The Apache RTR 160 4V is a high-performance bike. As soon as I started riding it on the highway, the engine sound started to grow louder as it reached speeds of 114 km/h. It sounds sporty, but many new riders may find it a bit too noisy, which can be a bit of a turnoff.

Why does the seat become uncomfortable on long rides?
Seat comfort is fine for city riding. However, once you reach a distance of 50 to 60 kilometers, the seat begins to feel a bit firm. This is worth considering if you're into long rides. Dealers often claim the seat is sporty, but the truth is that it feels a bit uncomfortable on long journeys. If you're into long rides, you might have a problem here.

Mileage is not as much as the dealer claims.
Dealers claim it'll comfortably deliver a mileage of 40-45 kmpl. But the reality is that when I drove it after filling it with a liter of petrol, I got 35-40 kmpl in the city and around 42-45 kmpl on the highway.
Speaking of performance, the Apache 4V is built for performance. It's natural to expect a slightly lower fuel economy. While this won't be disclosed openly in the showroom, it's a very good bike in terms of performance.
The bike doesn't respond quickly at the top end.
Let me tell you, this bike is powerful in the low-end and mid-range. But when I drove it at 100+ kmph, its suspense diminished a bit.
People might think its sporty look is a very high-top speed bike, but I'd say that's not the case. It's perfect for city and occasional highway driving, but not for racing.

Service costs are not as "cheap" as they are claimed.
Regular servicing is slightly more expensive than a 125-150cc commuter bike.
Its ongoing service costs are slightly higher, and it requires chain sprocket maintenance more frequently. Premium grade engine oil is recommended.
Dealers often talk about minimal maintenance, but the reality is that its performance-based engineering makes it a bit more expensive.
