So, Tata has finally updated the Punch EV. And yes, it’s a bit more flexible on pricing now. Under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme, the base price starts at Rs. 6.49 lakh. Full purchase? That jumps to Rs. 9.69 lakh for the base Smart variant, ex-showroom Mumbai. The compact SUV comes in five trims Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered+. Plenty of choices.
Smart 30 The Base That Surprises
At the bottom, we have the Smart 30. 30 kWh battery pack. Simple name, but not really simple car. You get four exterior colours – Supernova Copper, Pure Grey, Pristine White and Bengal Rouge. Not flashy, but decent.

Here’s the thing 265 km real-world range on paper. City commuting? No sweat. Drive modes City and Sport. Multi-level regenerative braking too. I remember once testing a base EV in Delhi traffic. The battery read 42% and suddenly dropped to 19%. Panic moment. So yeah, real-world numbers can swing.

Safety isn’t ignored. Six airbags, electronic stabilitycontrol, hill hold assist. Tata also packs in iRA.ev connectivity with smartwatch integration. High-beam alert, tyre pressure monitoring, height-adjustable driver seat. Functional stuff. Wheels? 15-inch steel with covers. Small digital instrument display. Keeps it simple. Works.
Smart+ 30 Feels a Bit Fancier
Move up to Smart+ 30. Rs. 10.29 lakh. You get greater gadgets. Eight-inch infotainment touchscreen with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Steering-installed controls. Dual 65W USB Type-C ports. Paddle shifters for regenerative braking. Little things like remote key, toggle-style window switches, shark-fin antenna. Makes cabin feel more grown-up.

I had a friend who booked Smart+ 30 after seeing just the touchscreen. He said Man, city drives will never be boring. True. Tech does make a difference in daily life.
Smart+ 40 Range Lovers’ Pick
Now, for those obsessed with range Smart+ 40. Rs. 10.89 lakh. Bigger 40 kWh battery. 355 km ARAI-certified. Eco, City, Sport modes. Electronic parking brake with auto-hold. Reverse camera. 16-inch steel wheels. Jewelled rotary drive selector. Looks a little premium. Drives a little longer without panicking about chargers.
And honestly, when I drove the 40 kWh version last month, the feeling was different. Smooth, relaxed, no constant battery anxiety. City traffic doesn’t feel like a headache anymore.

Batteries, Choices and Reality Check
Two battery options. Small 30 kWh, bigger 40 kWh. Real-world ranges: 265 km and 355 km respectively. But don’t kid yourself. Traffic, AC, aggressive driving numbers drop Always.
Tata is clearly aiming to cover all buyers entry-level price-conscious, tech lovers, and range-focused folks. And they do a decent job. But if you expect a “set-and-forget” EV, think again. Charging infrastructure and software quirks still matter.
So yeah. Punch EV updated. Options everywhere. Base is functional. Higher trims more fun. Decide what matters to you. Daily drive? Features? Range? Pick wisely
